Ande Ande Lumut

English

Long ago, the Kingdoms of Jenggala and Kediri planned to reunite through the marriage of Prince Kusumayuda and Dewi Galuh Candra Kirana. However, a great war separated them. The princess disappeared in the middle of the forest, and the prince was determined to find her.

In his travels, the prince disguised himself as a village youth named Ande Ande Lumut and lived with a kind-hearted widow named Mbok Randa Dadapan. Elsewhere, Dewi Candra Kirana was found by another widow and adopted as a daughter named Klenting Kuning. Unfortunately, she was treated like a servant by her adoptive mother and her three adoptive sisters: Klenting Merah, Hijau, and Biru.

One day, Ande Ande Lumut announced that he was looking for a wife. Hearing the news, the Klenting sisters rushed to dress up as beautifully as possible. Klenting Kuning also wanted to join, but her adoptive mother deliberately made her dirty and smeared her body with a foul odor so that she would feel ashamed to go.

The journey to Ande Ande Lumut’s house was blocked by a very wide river. There, Yuyu Kangkang appeared, a giant crab who offered a service to ferry them across the river. However, he asked for a kiss from every girl he helped as payment. Driven by their ambition, Klenting Merah, Hijau, and Biru agreed to the condition. However, Klenting Kuning firmly refused. She used her magical powers to drive Yuyu Kangkang away and crossed the river without sacrificing her honor.

Upon arriving at the destination, Ande Ande Lumut rejected all the girls who arrived earlier because he knew they had been kissed by Yuyu Kangkang. Mbok Randa was surprised when Ande Ande Lumut instead chose Klenting Kuning, who arrived in a dirty and smelly state.

Finally, both of their disguises were revealed. Ande Ande Lumut confessed that he was Prince Kusumayuda, and Klenting Kuning was Dewi Candra Kirana, whom he had been searching for all this time. They returned to the palace and lived happily ever after.
