Kisah Putri Kadita dan Samudera Selatan

English

Long ago in the Kingdom of Pajajaran, lived a princess named Dewi Kadita. She was the beloved daughter of King Siliwangi, nicknamed "Dewi Srengenge" because her beauty shone like the sun. Unfortunately, that beauty triggered jealousy within the palace.

An envious concubine sent an evil curse that covered Kadita's body with sores and a foul odor. Due to pressure from the palace environment, the princess was eventually exiled and walked southward in despair.

**Transformation Into a Ruler**

After a long journey, Kadita arrived at the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. There, she heard a mystical voice calling her to plunge into the sea. As soon as her body touched the waves, the curse vanished. Her beauty returned, but she was no longer an ordinary human—she had become Nyi Roro Kidul, the ruler of the supernatural kingdom of the south sea.

**Legendary Myths**

The Queen's presence created various beliefs that are still firmly held today:

1. **The Green Color Taboo:** People believe that green is the Queen's regal color. Tourists are often reminded not to wear green clothing at the southern beaches so as not to be "invited" into her kingdom.

2. **The Sacred Room:** In Pelabuhan Ratu, specifically at the Grand Inna Samudra Beach Hotel, there is Room 308 dedicated to the Queen, complete with offerings and all-green decorations.

3. **The Mystical Pact:** Legend also tells of a spiritual relationship between the Queen and Panembahan Senopati, the founder of the Mataram Sultanate, which is said to have become the foundation of the political and spiritual power of Javanese kings in the past.

"The legend of Nyi Roro Kidul is a reminder that behind the ferocity of the ocean waves, lies a story about the resilience of a betrayed princess."
