Once upon a time, Nyi Blorong was originally an ordinary human named Nyimas Dewi Anggari. She was the daughter of a respected nobleman. However, despite being born into luxury, she possessed an arrogant, haughty, and insatiable nature.

Due to an internal family conflict, Nyimas Dewi Anggari was expelled from the palace. In her flight filled with anger and resentment, she became lost in a vast wilderness bordering the South Sea. There, she discovered a mystical gateway that led her into the dimension of the South Coast Kingdom.

Her presence was noticed by the ruler of the South Sea. Because of her beauty and great ambition, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul appointed her as part of the kingdom, but with one curse or blessing (depending on how one views it): at certain times, her form would transform into a terrifying giant snake.

**Role in the Mystical Kingdom**

Nyi Blorong was not merely an inhabitant of the palace. She was known as a formidable Warlord. Her main duties were:

* **Maintaining Defense:** She led an army of spirits to guard the mystical borders of the South Sea from external disturbances.
* **Misleading Humans:** She was tasked with testing human faith. For those with weak and greedy hearts, Nyi Blorong would appear as a figure who grants wealth.

**The Pesugihan Ritual and Golden Scales**

The most famous part of the Nyi Blorong legend is her connection to *Pesugihan* (the pursuit of instant wealth through dark rituals). It is said that Nyi Blorong can grant abundant wealth in a short time.

**The Ritual Procession**

Someone blinded by greed would perform a ritual on the seashore on specific nights (usually *Jumat Kliwon*). Nyi Blorong would come to meet that person in a house where a special room had been prepared.

**The Deadly Golden Scales**

Every time Nyi Blorong arrived and made a "pact" with the seeker, she would shake her snake body. From every friction of her scales, numerous pieces of pure gold would fall. The human would become wealthy instantly.

However, this gold did not come from the universe for free. There was a price to be paid:

* **Life Sacrifice:** Usually, a family member or someone close must be sacrificed every year.
* **Self-Sacrifice:** In the end, the seeker of *pesugihan* would not die in peace. Their soul would be taken to become part of the "foundation" or a "soldier" in Nyi Blorong's underwater palace forever.

**Myths and Prohibitions**

To this day, the people on the southern coast of Java still hold certain beliefs to respect the existence of the mystical powers there. Some prohibitions often associated with Nyi Blorong's territory include:

* **Gadung Green Color:** Tourists are forbidden from wearing green clothing because that color is considered the royal color of the South Sea kingdom.
* **Greed:** This legend actually serves as a moral reminder that wealth obtained through instant means and by allying with dark forces will only end in eternal suffering.
* *"Nyi Blorong’s wealth is merely a loan whose interest is life, and whose collateral is eternity in suffering."*

Nyi Blorong remains a symbol of uncontrolled human ambition. She is beautiful yet deadly, promising luxury while demanding a terrifying devotion.
