The Tale of Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih

Once upon a time, in a village, lived a beautiful and kind-hearted girl named Bawang Putih. After her mother passed away, her father remarried a widow who had a daughter named Bawang Merah. Unfortunately, that happiness did not last long. After her father followed her mother in passing, Bawang Putih's life changed drastically. Her stepmother and stepsister treated her like a servant, while they lived in laziness.

One day, disaster struck while Bawang Putih was washing clothes in the river. One of her stepmother's cloths was swept away by the current. Fearing a severe punishment, she braved herself to walk along the river to search for it until she met a mysterious old woman in a small hut. The old woman agreed to return the cloth as long as Bawang Putih helped her clean the house. With sincerity and without complaining, Bawang Putih helped the old woman until the tasks were finished.

As a token of gratitude, the old woman gave her a pumpkin as a gift. The humble Bawang Putih chose the smallest pumpkin. To the great surprise of her and her family when they arrived home, the pumpkin was split open and found to be filled with a pile of gold and sparkling jewelry.

Seeing such fortune, a wicked intention arose in the stepmother's heart. She ordered Bawang Merah to pretend to let a cloth wash away and meet the old woman. However, due to her lazy and rude nature, Bawang Merah performed the tasks half-heartedly. When offered a choice, she greedily grabbed the largest pumpkin.

Upon arriving home, they immediately split the large pumpkin open, hoping to become immensely wealthy. However, instead of gold, what came out were snakes, scorpions, and various venomous creatures. They fled in terror and finally realized that wickedness and greed only bring disaster upon oneself.

Moral Lesson:
Sincerity of heart will always bear sweet fruit, while envy and greed will only harm oneself in the future.
